<br />
It's been quite some time since I've posted on my blog. I've missed it. This last year was full of moving into our new house which I had posted about in some of the 2015 posts. The actual move was only 1 day but because of my health issues, it took me about 6 months to feel like I was settled into my new home.<br />
<br />
I'm back on my blog now and planning some major changes. I'll be posting pictures along the way of our new house and of course my projects, etc. I've missed blogging and reading blogs. I have fallen in love with Instagram and it has taken me away as it has so many. I want to do both in the future, Instagram and blog. Instagram is a moment in time but blogging tells a story.<br />
<br />
In the mean time, I'll just post a very few pictures from 2016. Why are they so few you ask? Because my dear husband accidentally deleted most of my pictures from my phone which is where they all were. I had not been taking pictures with my camera for some reason. But now I've learned my lesson. Never let your husband download pictures for you.<br />
<br />
These first two pictures are the challenge blocks I entered in last years local quilt show. The first is a pattern from 627Handworks on craftsy. The second is from the book Sweet Tweets by Erin Cox. I won First Place ribbons on both. The challenge was scraps and we had to use at least 16 different fabrics per block. <br />

<br />
These next pictures are a mini quilt I made for an Instagram swap. The geese are a pattern from Jelliquilts on craftsy and the butterflies are from an out of print book by Linda Causee. This was also my first foray into big stitch hand quilting as you can see from the bottom three pictures.<br />

I didn't actually get any large quilts finished last year because of the move and setting up my sewing room and then redoing my sewing room again. But I have some things coming up that are almost done plus some stitching projects that I'd love to share. I'm trying to get myself more organized and stay off the computer and social media so that I can get more done. It's funny how you can spend hours looking at the sale fabric in an online store and then the day is gone and no sewing got done. I'm trying really hard not to do that anymore. (It's so hard!!!)<br />
<br />
I'm looking forward to a future of changing and growing my blog and getting way more sewing done!<div class="blogger-post-footer">“This post was originally posted on Handmade Whimzy. As anyone who is familiar with the Modern Quilt Guild knows, the periodically have challenges sponsored by some of their awesome sponsors such as Michael Miller or Riley Blake.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"> Earlier this year, Riley Blake sponsored a challenge with the Quilted Fish's fabric line called The Cottage Garden. It is a beautiful line of fabric with lots of my favorite colors like aqua, yellow, gray and it also came in a pink colorway.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">We were sent the aqua/gray colorway to get started on our quilts. Of course I had to buy more fabric because you just never know, right?</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">The challenge was to try something new and do something you'd never done before. I had never done triangles and had been wanting to try them. Also, I've been wanting to start designing my own paper piecing patters. So I decided to design all the patterns for the entire quilt. It was a very simple design as each square only had 3 pieces and I had 3 different square shapes and sizes. It was fun and I really enjoyed it.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Ironically, I barely got my quilt posted to the site before the deadline. I had finished the quilt but forgot to post it until the very last day. <span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Even though I've always said how much I hate handwork, I've decided to try my hand at English Paper Piecing. I bought a new book a few weeks ago called The New Hexagon by Katja Marek. The makes EPP looks so much easier than other books. For one thing, she teaches you how to glue baste. I think that's great! Less hand sewing but it's still something you can do while watching TV or in my case, when my energy level is at zero for the day but I'd still like to feel that I can accomplish something.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ773xnLVayoPMa1uq_MuSxyHvDfOYcGl9MZlpNwUhAMIYbPegV3liqyMlPwOSMSRIFrQDtXSWTeQkG5EIV9KALHl1ldukXxBpv0_sGYSq7VOMWoPYAZ4Bp17wxnluGIsdamRBzVVZR3JS/s1600/newhex1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="309" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ773xnLVayoPMa1uq_MuSxyHvDfOYcGl9MZlpNwUhAMIYbPegV3liqyMlPwOSMSRIFrQDtXSWTeQkG5EIV9KALHl1ldukXxBpv0_sGYSq7VOMWoPYAZ4Bp17wxnluGIsdamRBzVVZR3JS/s320/newhex1.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Katja is sponsoring a free<a href="http://www.katjasquiltshoppe.com/the-new-hexagon-millefiore-quilt-along.htm" target="_blank"> <span style="color: #cc0000;">Milliefiore Quilt Along on her blog</span></a>. There will be 12 Rosettes in all (I think) and you can make your own paper pieces or do what most people do and order them already cut from paperpieces.com. The Rosettes use the hexagons from her book but she provides the patterns on her blog for the rosettes. Confusing? I was too at first but I think I've got it now. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Anyway, I've got my book, my papers and now I'm trying to decide on fabric. I'm trying to be careful about value because I tend to pull all medium value colors.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOZS2EpGD6y_NZUfDwmSQZYUSRD8NTVc1NkKZac0gbDwP5giYi95FHE1hE_FMQg5R8oOv-qujiP0HPDzIGtE3PzGHtSB4c6eybH5qmp8Lsdhop1GveyE7li0goqhtecupLYVIRW5rpth9w/s1600/newhex4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="257" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOZS2EpGD6y_NZUfDwmSQZYUSRD8NTVc1NkKZac0gbDwP5giYi95FHE1hE_FMQg5R8oOv-qujiP0HPDzIGtE3PzGHtSB4c6eybH5qmp8Lsdhop1GveyE7li0goqhtecupLYVIRW5rpth9w/s320/newhex4.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I've gotten it narrowed down to a green, aqua, pink, gray color scheme.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEintFkYDNFSPcZE9QtwAu6voZt0qVk_8Icy5bYBfrV9rCnFFG6dk8puTM44mofAoF6gy3oJoUtMNdbQczjK8fR4UphiD_UbmsyiZ4i9PjU8fcxZDa2idXDfQAbFM8cd84jf3KWztQs4kdSq/s1600/newhex3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="314" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEintFkYDNFSPcZE9QtwAu6voZt0qVk_8Icy5bYBfrV9rCnFFG6dk8puTM44mofAoF6gy3oJoUtMNdbQczjK8fR4UphiD_UbmsyiZ4i9PjU8fcxZDa2idXDfQAbFM8cd84jf3KWztQs4kdSq/s320/newhex3.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Or a red, yellow, orange, with black text print color scheme.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I think choosing the fabrics will be the hardest part. I hope I can do this. I really need some type of handwork that I like.</span><br />

I wanted to finish the quilt top and ta da - I have! Unfortunately, I didn't get it posted to Sewbittersweet's blog in time. BOO! For some reason I was thinking that I had until the 7th day of the new month. Sigh.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I'll try not to make that mistake again.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So my goal for September, is to piece the back of the quilt and get it quilted. I want to finish it as fast as I can so my hubby can have it well in advance.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp3lSsnJxuIIXciSSU-h5Pkt-Solt6TAwrFYdvQAxoQxrdjrTXQyTPlK7HOKyh5V9DRG9t8QZo2YyQuLRsh4lqTfIKEJR9UA4XFDc8vy5qs_uI04JaMWNOqocEjTl8zSzPgZVMDECngpk3/s1600/cbxmas3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp3lSsnJxuIIXciSSU-h5Pkt-Solt6TAwrFYdvQAxoQxrdjrTXQyTPlK7HOKyh5V9DRG9t8QZo2YyQuLRsh4lqTfIKEJR9UA4XFDc8vy5qs_uI04JaMWNOqocEjTl8zSzPgZVMDECngpk3/s320/cbxmas3.jpg" width="315" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I've got several things I need to get quilted so I'm going to try to do those things this month.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">But my goal will just be to finish the back and quilt the Charlie Brown Christmas Quilt.</span><br />

<br />
I know it's pretty far from February now but I wanted to show you my friend Robyn's Valentine challenge project. I loved it so much that she gave it to me for my birthday present - which was in March.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitP0ua5NhYhmon_xI2ztIyEbcBfA0kkMtIK6KRWV_yxN3q-ZsMW3tqCFpUBvOVKGVy6ZIm7nJj9OtiQ-Sc-mCIH_HR7QlVcErZoFAhr-bLvSuosY-jq2BAZt1mYpCaw_irHUsSOiLXzqhf/s1600/robyns1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="303" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitP0ua5NhYhmon_xI2ztIyEbcBfA0kkMtIK6KRWV_yxN3q-ZsMW3tqCFpUBvOVKGVy6ZIm7nJj9OtiQ-Sc-mCIH_HR7QlVcErZoFAhr-bLvSuosY-jq2BAZt1mYpCaw_irHUsSOiLXzqhf/s320/robyns1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Robyn is an art quilter. She has been quilting for years and I think she has tried just about every kind of quilting there is so it stands to reason that she would eventually find her way to art quilting. I think she's found her niche.<br />
<br />
She made this Valentine mostly with selvedge edges plus a few scraps and some red rick rack. I love the way she basically made a color wheel with all the colors and then used the red in the middle. I think this is so creative and cool.<br />

I'm going to try to talk her into entering it in our local quilt show in the spring.<br />
Robyn blogs <a href="http://quiltingintherobynsnest.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">HERE</a> at Quilting in the Robyn's nest. She is remodeling her house right now and she is doing weekly updates which are awesome. If you love looking at reno's as they go along, you will love reading her blog.<br />

I had been reading quilting blogs and seeing all the beautiful modern quilts out there and it got me all excited.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So, I went out to my local fabric store and bought one charm pack which are 42 5" squares. Forty two, I thought. That will make a whole quilt. Bless my heart.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilDm41tQDuIS1NKJjstjHsshTza0Tr5pjgQEFZnekgAmrHYPVIzSoBgmYlqzyN88IRFZXKj3UGQnh3z5PeahIUrXabNwoh4lR09WeeVNcTDdk4rcM-y6Nf9dN5-rN5jUsJCwVJ3kesXj1t/s1600/firstquilt3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilDm41tQDuIS1NKJjstjHsshTza0Tr5pjgQEFZnekgAmrHYPVIzSoBgmYlqzyN88IRFZXKj3UGQnh3z5PeahIUrXabNwoh4lR09WeeVNcTDdk4rcM-y6Nf9dN5-rN5jUsJCwVJ3kesXj1t/s320/firstquilt3.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Sorry for the picture quality. They all have too much light.</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Once I layed out the squares, I realized I needed more just to make it baby quilt size. So, I cut out some solid whites and added those. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlB8PDlYB3ZJgmBSyZU9i5kkoh1CgPhtRy75mL8JveUGWSh4VHRg__JYGmLFtn8LPKpgSDE7TQAVeqF072DMF1LwtieIBmMvP33X-Tg-lQrSdcBnlxC0rWC4_ZiGuTx6N0yO6ArsKGivPo/s1600/firstquilt9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlB8PDlYB3ZJgmBSyZU9i5kkoh1CgPhtRy75mL8JveUGWSh4VHRg__JYGmLFtn8LPKpgSDE7TQAVeqF072DMF1LwtieIBmMvP33X-Tg-lQrSdcBnlxC0rWC4_ZiGuTx6N0yO6ArsKGivPo/s320/firstquilt9.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Anyway, this quilt sat in the UFO pile for some time. I didn't really like the fabric I had chosen and I didn't have anyone to give it to so I didn't see a reason to finish it. Plus it was pretty wonky. Seams that REALLY didn't match. Borders that were just WRONG. It was a hot mess.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsh9wWf24ItfsQplCR6vm-Xjj1XP2NCD3gUMCJL60MrHj5Jg1gJR76rUlcp4cknSbx7BehN0AxVfvA04FeDHg8EcSWW_vAirUNr0vMwodNmLsaumZAwwM9rNGy-uTOFNxaEhaBGgW0_8e4/s1600/firstquilt1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsh9wWf24ItfsQplCR6vm-Xjj1XP2NCD3gUMCJL60MrHj5Jg1gJR76rUlcp4cknSbx7BehN0AxVfvA04FeDHg8EcSWW_vAirUNr0vMwodNmLsaumZAwwM9rNGy-uTOFNxaEhaBGgW0_8e4/s320/firstquilt1.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">But a couple months ago, I got it back out (in my effort to finish some of my UFO's this summer) and I quilted it and bound it.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDa1Nv0ktx8mncC_X9_wcvFCYXLIJspyg1IwqcDnyMu2_WeI00qVcDEgF7kLZsUNSuhaWRDOX7v53FoQvtSKzFOrfsH8rwhDZnRCLon-0mUj_TxVIvZc3Fqw2tnTxLqqaYu-Ybcc88fp0j/s1600/firstquilt6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="293" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDa1Nv0ktx8mncC_X9_wcvFCYXLIJspyg1IwqcDnyMu2_WeI00qVcDEgF7kLZsUNSuhaWRDOX7v53FoQvtSKzFOrfsH8rwhDZnRCLon-0mUj_TxVIvZc3Fqw2tnTxLqqaYu-Ybcc88fp0j/s320/firstquilt6.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4PzGLdYlj0VflZcVwuANNL-xc9vKHlF8mLySlJywyaeCRr6v2obrBmT6cDgngHmpyLh_fbAsBIPuEEBv33NgwW3XTY7Ns7-WDXnucOZDKv4kuS9Czt5aF_ueIR9cDmEymjB8sC4QwgvND/s1600/firstquilt7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4PzGLdYlj0VflZcVwuANNL-xc9vKHlF8mLySlJywyaeCRr6v2obrBmT6cDgngHmpyLh_fbAsBIPuEEBv33NgwW3XTY7Ns7-WDXnucOZDKv4kuS9Czt5aF_ueIR9cDmEymjB8sC4QwgvND/s320/firstquilt7.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">It's still a hot mess but it's a finished hot mess. I think that I will keep it so that I can see where I started and see my progress as I go along. I still need to work on my binding but I'm getting pretty good at piecing and my quilting is improving.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuOgFghPO74Ir1Kfux9O-XHa0wROGAimJE65VLNPWJ0M1ZAM7h3pfT2juOvPqkqIE2sRT1whI1z2tHw1lg75S0HjjQTcWZXb4tlDRf-Vu7MmqMN8GQF_MoDnM_agVPrZF0WXvp7fdMTYpv/s1600/firstquilt5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="289" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuOgFghPO74Ir1Kfux9O-XHa0wROGAimJE65VLNPWJ0M1ZAM7h3pfT2juOvPqkqIE2sRT1whI1z2tHw1lg75S0HjjQTcWZXb4tlDRf-Vu7MmqMN8GQF_MoDnM_agVPrZF0WXvp7fdMTYpv/s320/firstquilt5.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">And surprisingly, even then, I prefered a pieced back.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA9I95BT8rrvN3QBngw4p8SlmXdIqp61JvmIm41tJyR6qRlf7YYbWSfVAm4xfvml4s9RTOYttBDY2eHlelfisC_cZIsRR0OgBGLFwuZ7GnhriwAGHWYHyIO7Ta-A3tImIEYo3m7RH6hM9N/s1600/firstquilt8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="287" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA9I95BT8rrvN3QBngw4p8SlmXdIqp61JvmIm41tJyR6qRlf7YYbWSfVAm4xfvml4s9RTOYttBDY2eHlelfisC_cZIsRR0OgBGLFwuZ7GnhriwAGHWYHyIO7Ta-A3tImIEYo3m7RH6hM9N/s320/firstquilt8.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">And always remember your label.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Statistics on this quilt:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Fabric - Moda but I don't remember the line, white fabric is also Moda. The polka dotted fabric that I used on the back and for the wonky border was a fabric in the line. My binding fabric, the green and white stripe, is from Scrumptious by Bonnie and Camille.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Size - Approximately 40 inches by 40 inches.</span><br />

I've been wanting to do the Take Wing Butterfly Pattern since the first moment I saw it. It's a beautiful paper piecing pattern by Lillyella Stitchery. I first saw it on Instagram and immediately fell in love.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRe6uiKLqN6d-92wAHxjV-jAU-EC5H6Lch-Rm4Gb8CgzSBySSLnhuTIkb7Bd0G-xZORftLCHYPn1hfrgfdh-oWYGVLHMd69Y8R-KWOl0_3h8o_ltZBVq1hHVls0m8vDNxJuBLk5O25ZRX_/s1600/takewing2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRe6uiKLqN6d-92wAHxjV-jAU-EC5H6Lch-Rm4Gb8CgzSBySSLnhuTIkb7Bd0G-xZORftLCHYPn1hfrgfdh-oWYGVLHMd69Y8R-KWOl0_3h8o_ltZBVq1hHVls0m8vDNxJuBLk5O25ZRX_/s320/takewing2.jpg" width="261" /></a></div>
<br />
The pattern is for a mini quilt that will measure about 24" by 15". It is an intermediate pattern. She has since created an easier pattern for beginners that makes a very similar butterfly.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxEIKI3DGx7ZA7xDkNJWkdfdsAWN9X86JsElbK58kJJkMRrjizXXt54emRmLz4fjpxrxZdHL-xYqMYDpOnFgODJ1_4pcejeM1tyjMtpACZ2XqbVpuG4AFgRwsubRPwus22tOCujC4GjNLw/s1600/takewing1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxEIKI3DGx7ZA7xDkNJWkdfdsAWN9X86JsElbK58kJJkMRrjizXXt54emRmLz4fjpxrxZdHL-xYqMYDpOnFgODJ1_4pcejeM1tyjMtpACZ2XqbVpuG4AFgRwsubRPwus22tOCujC4GjNLw/s320/takewing1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So far I have finished the upper right wing and I'm working on the upper left wing. I've been using all Alison Glass fabrics that I've had hoarded away for some time. The background fabric is Essex Dyed linen in Natural.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi329eJu3x6BpDwNLKIQW-M5BaKWg4Wq8E1LwhJXpk_okXeJ8JiSYtfi8RVpOndTJz4g7AKqC9cQ1EUh48WqDDN29SvXJCzbFLt_FM4wBpOpj1yQX8J6cHX-TZ6XMCXuh36wmCuGXvAMp3w/s1600/takewing3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="271" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi329eJu3x6BpDwNLKIQW-M5BaKWg4Wq8E1LwhJXpk_okXeJ8JiSYtfi8RVpOndTJz4g7AKqC9cQ1EUh48WqDDN29SvXJCzbFLt_FM4wBpOpj1yQX8J6cHX-TZ6XMCXuh36wmCuGXvAMp3w/s320/takewing3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I love intricate paper pieced patterns and I'm hoping to make more of these butterflies, possibly in single colors.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">oh yeah, and a wedding. It's been a busy summer. This is my catch up post. There are lots of pictures.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">We are building a house - our dream house. This was all my husband's idea. I just wanted to remodel the kitchen. But, I was seduced by the idea of the house we've always wanted and a larger sewing room. But what comes with building a house? Lots and lots of stress. My sweetie was eager to build a new house but not to do all the "work". Finding a designer, a builder, picking all the stuff that goes in a house, etc. So, I get to do all of that fun stuff. All of this was made harder by the fact that we had a very rainy spring and the builder couldn't start on time. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I'm not great at keeping up with taking pictures at every step and also, who wants to see the roughed in plumbing. So I'm just going to hit the highlights. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;">Our lot. It's a beautiful corner lot in a neighborhood that we've wanted to live in for about 15 years. All the houses are charming Victorians, Craftsman Bungalows, Southern style - timeless houses. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Inner "bones". It's not actually a 2 story. The stairs lead up to the attic for storage. We've tried to plan this house for our elderly years. Or in my case, possibly the near future. We've tried to make it easy for wheelchairs, walkers, etc. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"> Just this past week, they got most of the exterior painting done and even started on the shingles. This room in front with the 3 windows is my sewing room.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So, along with building a house comes selling a house. We got our house all spiffied up and put it on the market. It's 12 years old. We got an offer within 2 days. The catch was the buyer needed us to move out quickly and wanted to close on the house in about 2 weeks.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Out we went looking for an apartment. We found one and put down a deposit. We started packing and even started moving things we couldn't take to the apartment to a storage room and my in laws house. Then of course, the buyers backed out. We were more than a bit pissed.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So, what do you do? Do you loose your apartment deposit and stay in your house? What if you get another offer tomorrow? You don't know when the house will sell, it could be 2 days or 2 months. And it's really hard to rent an apartment for less than 6 months. They look at you like your nuts if you say that you just need a place to stay for a couple months. Sigh. So, to decrease the stress on myself (because of my health issues) we decided to go ahead and move into the apartment and pray it sold quickly. This time to someone who actually wanted to buy it and wasn't nuts.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I've got to say, our apartment is really cute. If I was single and apartment living, I'd love to live here.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The first thing I did was set up my sewing area. It's in the spot where the dining table should be but I confiscated it because it had all the lights.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Ok and now for the wedding! My mother who is 80 married her boyfriend who is 88 on June 27th. They had both been widowed for about a year but I guess at this age, you have to move fast.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I have sort of a weird relationship with my family. My parents were miserably unhappy and honestly, all I want for my mom is for her to be happy for the rest of her life. Here we are, me and my mom, before her wedding. We were helping her get ready. We all wore blue as you can see. I don't have any pictures of the service because I was the Matron of Honor and no one has sent me any. But it was such a sweet ceremony. They had it at their church with their minister who was a really sweet young man. He altered the vows to fit them and they brought tears to everyone's eyes. Especially the groom who had to take a minute before he could repeat his. I think it was the sweetest wedding I've ever been to.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"> Here is my sister with my mom before the wedding. My new stepsister was also a bridesmaid but I don't have a picture of her. My nephew, my sister's oldest son who my mother adores and is closest to, walked her down the aisle.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"> My new stepsister made about 6 cakes for the wedding. I think she had every flavor. I volunteered to make a plain white cake with buttercream icing and ta da - here it is. The roses on top is a cake topper. I really stink at decorating cakes but I can make a tasty one. I love to bake but I have trouble standing long enough to do all the sifting, egg separating and all that jazz.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"> And here is the bride - Katie and the groom - Woody as they are cutting the cake. It was so cute.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">This is after they fed each other cake and wiped their faces. I didn't want to put the smeared cake pics up. Don't they look sweet too? He is constantly telling her how pretty she is and how much he loves her. He holds her hand and they giggle together and kiss. My son thinks it's so gross :)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Well, that's been my summer so far. At least the big stuff. There was so much more I could add but let's get back to quilting and sewing stuff. I actually got lots of things finished that I need to get posted. So stayed tuned for many awesome things! </span><div class="blogger-post-footer">“This post was originally posted on Handmade Whimzy. I seem to have been missing for the past 3 months. I'll be telling you why in a future blog post but for today I wanted to post my August goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I haven't participated in ALYOF for several months - I'm so behind on everything. But I'm determined to do better and to catch myself up.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1WjNThKYrokD88_j4k4d7fvRj_UJFMtwgSxYGm-JHYjeZOdKrkSDdbAy72EpY8hyThzmHDgCdXGUKQftGqDsj-kW8pHMqzsrF-0DiQjPDwQp1H4A8H18AX4kuoyL_31dYaRbeW5ILBgg3/s1600/xmas6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="254" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1WjNThKYrokD88_j4k4d7fvRj_UJFMtwgSxYGm-JHYjeZOdKrkSDdbAy72EpY8hyThzmHDgCdXGUKQftGqDsj-kW8pHMqzsrF-0DiQjPDwQp1H4A8H18AX4kuoyL_31dYaRbeW5ILBgg3/s320/xmas6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This month I have started working on a Christmas quilt for my husband. It will be wall hanging size and will hang in his office at work. He loves to decorate his office for the holidays and he's been waiting patiently for this quilt for about 2 years now. It's a Peanuts quilt and it represents the Peanuts Christmas Special - A Charlie Brown Christmas.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCSHNGI0p14fmSjlZXSt2ssgkBcECW5iHnNMUDPpEkmNg1CdS29IBhZYfHeDlvqhyphenhyphen5I4HNaQWF91AlG-6PRs-XdEoTCSgqInCZXzJAVaWvUYDFXjKB-tvDcrJXfD_tV0d4HChgOmnh_j4F/s1600/xmas2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="289" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCSHNGI0p14fmSjlZXSt2ssgkBcECW5iHnNMUDPpEkmNg1CdS29IBhZYfHeDlvqhyphenhyphen5I4HNaQWF91AlG-6PRs-XdEoTCSgqInCZXzJAVaWvUYDFXjKB-tvDcrJXfD_tV0d4HChgOmnh_j4F/s320/xmas2.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I can't remember where I got this panel of squares but I've had it for some time and worked on it on and off. For the longest time, I couldn't figure out what to do with it. So I cut out each rectangle and then framed each one with red and green fabric. It sat on my design wall for some time after that.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I got it back out this past weekend and decided to do strips with the fabrics I had already cut up and just frame each one with white then sew the strip to a panel. I've gotten about half of the top done. So my goal this month is to finish the quilt top. I would also like to get it basted and maybe start quilting it but I'm going to stick with just finishing the top for my goal.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;">If I make my goal too lofty, I won't finish for sure :)</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This quilt is my own original pattern and design although I took my inspiration from a quilt in Quilting Modern by Jacquie Gering and Katie Pedersen. My inspiration quilt is called Fiesta and it is on page 122 of the book. It is a square quilt with an orange square border on the outside, red square border in the middle and purple square border on the inside. Then inside of the purple, is a patchwork square of print fabrics. My inspiration was the patchwork and the use of solid colors.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhedovFIhNoyG-pS1s4pTIkifktKcFqxMlF06ZwMfil5AsNHvcU6UMD7B8849_tsvKWWvzdWQx95I1nH_XNe47uSaiGpcWOxy4DbuFuS2FnnYgrVlOMUHwObWm2-7xzA1nkij2wRBalUZpc/s1600/modernvoice10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhedovFIhNoyG-pS1s4pTIkifktKcFqxMlF06ZwMfil5AsNHvcU6UMD7B8849_tsvKWWvzdWQx95I1nH_XNe47uSaiGpcWOxy4DbuFuS2FnnYgrVlOMUHwObWm2-7xzA1nkij2wRBalUZpc/s1600/modernvoice10.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I love patchwork and I think it connects me to traditional quilts but by the same means, I love solid color and the use of negative space which I feel connects me to the new modern quilting movement. I consider myself a modern traditionalist because I love making traditional quilt blocks but I like doing it in a modern way and arranging my quilts using an alternative grid and using modern fabric.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCJGioJNmyk7c_cdXIRMpsffB9M9qGojmoIIoNGVRkO9f5SVqTuxUrel3jFZUmwcb1mKltz-12AwIdddi9bWTmOPxjM0mv4c4wSPpoS-7r-HX6spIdZG2fCX5HevO637h6S-ECh2XZDffZ/s1600/modernvoice9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCJGioJNmyk7c_cdXIRMpsffB9M9qGojmoIIoNGVRkO9f5SVqTuxUrel3jFZUmwcb1mKltz-12AwIdddi9bWTmOPxjM0mv4c4wSPpoS-7r-HX6spIdZG2fCX5HevO637h6S-ECh2XZDffZ/s1600/modernvoice9.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So, My Modern Voice was my quilt that represents me and my current quilting viewpoint. I sketched it out sometime last year and started it with the intention of having it finished to apply at Quiltcon. But even though we sometimes have good intentions, we don't always meet our deadlines. I did however, finish it in time for our local quilt show in March.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">One of our modern quilting group members who is also a member of our local guild, was in charge of arranging the quilt displays. We had about 12 or so quilts that we marked "modern" and she hung them all together. We were all so grateful to Mrs. Sheryl for doing this for us. I think it made our modern quilts stand out more and hopefully started a voice growing in our community about modern quilting. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My Modern Voice</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">50 inches by 50 inches</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">All solids are Kona cottons</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I used a jelly roll of Mediterranean Dreams from Quilting Treasures which I cut into 2.5 inch squares.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I used some of the jelly roll strips to make the scrappy binding. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The back of the quilt is made from more patchwork, more solids and also some of the yardage from the Mediterranean Dreams line.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I quilted it using the Serpentine stitch on my machine to mimic how the inspiration quilt was quiltied. I used navy 50 wt. Aurifil thread for the quilting.</span><br />

But since I'm behind in my blogging anyway, to heck with it. I can post anything I want. HA</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My local traditional quilt guild has a quilt show every March. We have the opportunity to purchase kits of fabric (usually 2 fabrics) for $2.00 and then we are to make a quilt block to be entered into the quilt block challenge.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This year I purchased 2 kits. The background fabric was black and the other fabric was a multicolored. You can add any other fabrics to the block that you want and you can make your block anything you want. It can be any technique.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikySAooZ54o0BncY4VUvij31mttTMPsTzUEo0PrH3TZViBasWiAn7W7RTnb9uxTvn-LsUpa63vXXW3kuBidQR_NfZ3zYGzXscX_EUCBmYi2FZ-VQxYeB2IqYjF7sfTdG_OsiNHIPjA3Z1G/s1600/featheredstar1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikySAooZ54o0BncY4VUvij31mttTMPsTzUEo0PrH3TZViBasWiAn7W7RTnb9uxTvn-LsUpa63vXXW3kuBidQR_NfZ3zYGzXscX_EUCBmYi2FZ-VQxYeB2IqYjF7sfTdG_OsiNHIPjA3Z1G/s1600/featheredstar1.jpg" height="266" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I chose paper piecing for both my blocks. My son had gotten me the book A Flock of Feathered Stars by Carolyn Cullinan McCormick for Christmas and I used a pattern from there for one block. I love this book and I intend to make every block in it. I was thinking maybe in red and white.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjatjde02SfcroJnhDtALbD5KpegZjKpF34OoTeJQ8KNluiLdwua5GWsOKgHUzuaY5tZONSXU3kbXjswR0WaIriIP21XdOeVJTFU0q63sYE1rLHqpP1BcCH1LdS89FbpvMBTJp8U2eoI1jt/s1600/guildchallenge1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjatjde02SfcroJnhDtALbD5KpegZjKpF34OoTeJQ8KNluiLdwua5GWsOKgHUzuaY5tZONSXU3kbXjswR0WaIriIP21XdOeVJTFU0q63sYE1rLHqpP1BcCH1LdS89FbpvMBTJp8U2eoI1jt/s1600/guildchallenge1.jpg" height="305" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My other block is a flying geese block and I made my own pattern because I couldn't find a paper pieced one that was the right size. But that's ok because it turned out pretty good.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">The ribbons are judged but I don't really understand their judging process. Every single block gets a ribbon. What is the point of that? Who are you competing against? No one? Then at the next guild meeting, they divide the blocks into sacks and draw names to see who gets a stack of the blocks. You have to participate in making the blocks to be entered in the drawing. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Anywho, I also made a small quilt for our small quilt auction which raises money for the guild to use for speakers and workshops and such. Of course, I paper pieced it :)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I used a pattern by Quiet Play which I purchased from Craftsy. I don't have a finished picture on my computer but I'm sure there is one somewhere. So I'll just show you what I have.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV7uYKApihDhj1SP7MJk15PJV-vyjbZWveem-p7XneZmKVzDxV2ZtEsk3eDZe5bgqAXLYpC2O7KQBwA7AjDyABufZHq-Z3mpBZJw1qTAvpP6wR_wwn9fH8euU2Y6N1xFE4ct14x1zwZg3K/s1600/create1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV7uYKApihDhj1SP7MJk15PJV-vyjbZWveem-p7XneZmKVzDxV2ZtEsk3eDZe5bgqAXLYpC2O7KQBwA7AjDyABufZHq-Z3mpBZJw1qTAvpP6wR_wwn9fH8euU2Y6N1xFE4ct14x1zwZg3K/s1600/create1.jpg" height="161" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDwHHDBkTnJDLGArUobqhWXC9U3_Zwe8uUKL1uBsg0arcHUm9PJFqAESPxEBwjuvTdcSsmX4jX_cdEkRclAbaoha7XMunohX4CFJSt7XUmtpO5vLLMmclTMCyE6XQnc-lI4kToFfEE3lJc/s1600/create1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDwHHDBkTnJDLGArUobqhWXC9U3_Zwe8uUKL1uBsg0arcHUm9PJFqAESPxEBwjuvTdcSsmX4jX_cdEkRclAbaoha7XMunohX4CFJSt7XUmtpO5vLLMmclTMCyE6XQnc-lI4kToFfEE3lJc/s1600/create1.jpg" height="234" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I can't find what I did with the dimensions but I think it's about 12 inches x 20 inches. I quilted it with what I call fractured glass straight line quilting. Just random lines across, diagonal, all over. The back was the black Architextures print from Carolyn Freidlander and I just bound it with the same white Kona I used for the front. It turned out super cute - in my opinion.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">My friend Robyn bought it at the auction before anyone else got a chance. Thanks Robyn!</span><br />

I announced the challenge in November to give everyone plenty of time to have their projects completed by the February meeting, so of course, mine was not finished. I think it still needed binding.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">We could do anything we wanted for the challenge, it just needed to have a Valentine theme. I chose to do a table runner because I love table runners and you can never have too many. Right? (haha)</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4nkvmMS40Ngl99T78y8yW2Q-JzzNEjk_XEOG3tbo1aZgQX31-tseffxYhEbapPWRsVFUBzONNm_asm_sDEJGYi_g-e3h-YzacbPzRYdeXJIKo5R3vQ2hzIBSc58hFb8KaQwuyMcd7Lf5i/s1600/challengeval1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4nkvmMS40Ngl99T78y8yW2Q-JzzNEjk_XEOG3tbo1aZgQX31-tseffxYhEbapPWRsVFUBzONNm_asm_sDEJGYi_g-e3h-YzacbPzRYdeXJIKo5R3vQ2hzIBSc58hFb8KaQwuyMcd7Lf5i/s1600/challengeval1.jpg" height="320" width="190" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I also chose to do paper piecing because I love it so and it's my "go to" technique. I used <a href="http://www.sewmamasew.com/2012/02/true-love-love-mini-quilt-pattern-tutorial/" target="_blank">Mini Love Quilt pattern from Sew Mama Sew</a> which I've used before. Instead of arranging the letters in a square, I just went straight down with them. I made 2 rows and to finish the rows off, I paper pieced little hearts. The heart pattern is from the book 365 Foundation Quilt Blocks by Linda Causee that I've mentioned before. I added the black text fabric around the hearts until I had them the size that I wanted.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIhzfaGtjUH5uxDvVPeIIU-w5UHDteTLlVTf-udwydcKqhNNPl3F2PR9hophPLOfb7iCM-FnILX0ZL51cGiqRDFnAPg7ZdIsi4sGvdQXzZNitrl8T8XMZuApg_kYxkWZxMId5zcXjDk4CI/s1600/challengeval2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIhzfaGtjUH5uxDvVPeIIU-w5UHDteTLlVTf-udwydcKqhNNPl3F2PR9hophPLOfb7iCM-FnILX0ZL51cGiqRDFnAPg7ZdIsi4sGvdQXzZNitrl8T8XMZuApg_kYxkWZxMId5zcXjDk4CI/s1600/challengeval2.jpg" height="320" width="282" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I used a charm pack of Moda Kiss Kiss for the letters. For the parts of the letters that were to long for 5 inch charm pack blocks, I used solid Kona Cotton. I didn't keep track of all the colors of Kona I used but as you can tell, it was shades of aqua, pink, and red. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The black and white chevron stripe fabric that I used as sashing between the rows is why I call this piece "Psychedelic Valentine". The motion of the fabric hurts my eyes and it felt very psychedelic to me. I think it is a fabric from one of the Moda Halloween lines.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1fswZS3Zj00EmCuzo_eqWPq6QpuKKNaFiD1VwiRPK463XBSScVAwCNX1vV_q2PaPVc__qp6TtQJBRaiSSGVE4MJsB3Fwn22Wl4umSM5_AW4k2RCkucEWqgL2od6l7PwggbhkR8Tdka1nV/s1600/challengeval3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1fswZS3Zj00EmCuzo_eqWPq6QpuKKNaFiD1VwiRPK463XBSScVAwCNX1vV_q2PaPVc__qp6TtQJBRaiSSGVE4MJsB3Fwn22Wl4umSM5_AW4k2RCkucEWqgL2od6l7PwggbhkR8Tdka1nV/s1600/challengeval3.jpg" height="320" width="273" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"> I quilted it on my new Juki TL2010Q. I FMQ'd loopy lines in the letters with red thread - 50 wt. Auriful.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8HMNolKY9KU7xHQq0fqCal9uXAoBu9L8dot0UmcME20mqtViXfgCAfFHAPiAaNUUrGlC02jfd_QhaX59Hy_KJ5Hn-MKdEKBWVOVDuUJ_OEOJA7kVZWNpe490FFfMdF_B1Zb1XNrWO4Tfv/s1600/challengeval4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8HMNolKY9KU7xHQq0fqCal9uXAoBu9L8dot0UmcME20mqtViXfgCAfFHAPiAaNUUrGlC02jfd_QhaX59Hy_KJ5Hn-MKdEKBWVOVDuUJ_OEOJA7kVZWNpe490FFfMdF_B1Zb1XNrWO4Tfv/s1600/challengeval4.jpg" height="320" width="249" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">The psychedelic black sashing fabric has long squiggles quilted on them from top to bottom. I used black thread, also 50 wt. Aurifil, to quilt it and you can't see it at all from the front. Only from the back. I didn't quilt anything in the black spaces or in the heart blocks. I just felt like this was enough.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Speaking of the back, here it is! I used my remaining charm squares to make the back of the runner and I used a large piece of this pink Dear John fabric that I've been hoarding. You can see all the quilting so much better from the back.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjICxhJSAM8zgnO2GJk4bTL-G55Upg5A4Vq5CyO3WJo5xg6lX_hS8TsURrFUaJxZS1rGWT2DkkEMytm-mIv2mV8YaupKc6CrfyKZsuMco8bDIepWU3q1ceTsFMik1hwzWocT5ulqLzz6YDq/s1600/challengeval5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjICxhJSAM8zgnO2GJk4bTL-G55Upg5A4Vq5CyO3WJo5xg6lX_hS8TsURrFUaJxZS1rGWT2DkkEMytm-mIv2mV8YaupKc6CrfyKZsuMco8bDIepWU3q1ceTsFMik1hwzWocT5ulqLzz6YDq/s1600/challengeval5.jpg" height="320" width="191" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"> I used charm square scraps for my label and zig zagged it down with the black thread. I love making labels this way. It is from a <a href="http://myquiltinfatuation.blogspot.com/2013/07/quilt-labels-quick-and-easy-and-cute-way.html" target="_blank">tutorial by Kelly from My Quilt Infatuation</a>. I never forget my labels now. They are just a part of the back of every quilt.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">My binding is a red fabric with aqua dots that is a part of the Kiss Kiss line.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So, now here I am for April and I'm going to do it this time too!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Ok, so my goal for April is to finish my first baby quilt that I wanted to finish in February. I did get the quilting finished so all I need to do is trim it and bind it. I don't know what I'll do with it when finished but I'll think of something.<br />
I was actually thinking I might keep it so that I can see how far I've come from the very beginning. I made this quilt before I knew what kind of quilter I was, what kind of fabric I liked, what kind of quilts I wanted to make.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_B39OqRlDCsygwFq6yReUKAn94lqhBQmjq7C6GfOz3cR1l0xj3LPxqx1AlobvotaAk-BKpLCBXNTSYqvoUDhPRMKypX2GqpxrJ0cT6Nkq4NXXKjSGttJb0DtBA3qGhXV1j6X51e01pQBU/s1600/alyofapril1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_B39OqRlDCsygwFq6yReUKAn94lqhBQmjq7C6GfOz3cR1l0xj3LPxqx1AlobvotaAk-BKpLCBXNTSYqvoUDhPRMKypX2GqpxrJ0cT6Nkq4NXXKjSGttJb0DtBA3qGhXV1j6X51e01pQBU/s1600/alyofapril1.jpg" height="251" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So for April, I'm going to get this quilt finished 100%.<br />

I have been on an unintentional hiatus since February. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">In February, I attended Quiltcon 2015 and there was much preparation that went into getting ready to go and getting everything to fit into my suitcases. Then once I came home, I was exhausted. And since then, I've been having a lovely flare (sarcasm) with my Lupus and Fibromyalgia. Also, somewhere in there, I switched meds again for my Lupus. I'm now on an immunosuppresive which basically just knocks out your immune system that way your body can't fight itself. The theory being that the Lupus can no longer damage your body. So yay! Of course, you could get the flu and it could kill you so there you go.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Anyhoo, lets talk about something more fun. I'm going to share some of the things that I liked best about Quiltcon but I won't be showing a lot of quilt pictures.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJHdj69OT3818pUvF53jx2yzdB0blFx2plrexaTXXD5sxEQEcvQ_H0ZImpiV9HiysTpaudWkfkS_k5tQCstvE4fUX9sMdff7JKsTjSGv593yQYQuPc3W5ZokwINtwdV6jDZQ4fBbr69fgr/s1600/rileyblakedress1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJHdj69OT3818pUvF53jx2yzdB0blFx2plrexaTXXD5sxEQEcvQ_H0ZImpiV9HiysTpaudWkfkS_k5tQCstvE4fUX9sMdff7JKsTjSGv593yQYQuPc3W5ZokwINtwdV6jDZQ4fBbr69fgr/s1600/rileyblakedress1.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I've seen lots of pics on the internet of the quilts at Quiltcon and different things but I have not seen any of the Riley Blake booth. This dress was made out of paper butterflies. I asked before I took the picture.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Last year the Modern Quilt Guild did a Michael Miller Couture Cotton challenge with all pastel fabrics. I didn't participate because I couldn't imagine a quilt with all pastels that wasn't a baby quilt. They had a few of the winners in a display at Quiltcon and I have to say, my mind is changed. You can make a pastel quilt that is not for a baby but you have to be very mindful of what you are doing.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiICoP1-OxJF_ybpP_JrthvTG0HdB70qE_g6sJelyirmkywz5P2MsoOfFM3Trjqd2EWiucKMXktrK_wvj-Kxe2JAh9mVANc2AO0i9P2unOYlmmde4wMrIsbtA1rMzavNucQovyKMbU-9iC-/s1600/pastelimage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiICoP1-OxJF_ybpP_JrthvTG0HdB70qE_g6sJelyirmkywz5P2MsoOfFM3Trjqd2EWiucKMXktrK_wvj-Kxe2JAh9mVANc2AO0i9P2unOYlmmde4wMrIsbtA1rMzavNucQovyKMbU-9iC-/s1600/pastelimage.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvjyOUjO2OwIFIzYx_7tS1qYJc0uVjkGhzlK9DhKJeUMkuU0kYc2MDTSh45tKPckgibYE9J3iH8NW3w1n6wX1CMBuwVCDrmknLmyTN5B2WAWRddCOMCaKmK-kzHbQzwnj3sl_Gdr7EWIP5/s1600/pastelmaker.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvjyOUjO2OwIFIzYx_7tS1qYJc0uVjkGhzlK9DhKJeUMkuU0kYc2MDTSh45tKPckgibYE9J3iH8NW3w1n6wX1CMBuwVCDrmknLmyTN5B2WAWRddCOMCaKmK-kzHbQzwnj3sl_Gdr7EWIP5/s1600/pastelmaker.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> The name of this quilt was "Pastels Aren't My Favorite" by Janet McWorkman from Anchorage Alaska - an individual member. It was my favorite of the pastels though I took several pictures of others. Some would have looked like baby blankets if they had been larger so I think you have to be very careful when working with only pastels.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg0QOVkBE8DLG6iXBc1_d7JDEZ8CA2MlPo_GgdbvtG6lXxS9eVhf8SI7Ma6weVJpg7CwXUVHtJjt3BKGvFwAe6gYaXP11h6qgFegvdN0OH1lWfqlCuFjBAg7h7CvLYNGDAlqD3k4qSaFab/s1600/gypsywife.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg0QOVkBE8DLG6iXBc1_d7JDEZ8CA2MlPo_GgdbvtG6lXxS9eVhf8SI7Ma6weVJpg7CwXUVHtJjt3BKGvFwAe6gYaXP11h6qgFegvdN0OH1lWfqlCuFjBAg7h7CvLYNGDAlqD3k4qSaFab/s1600/gypsywife.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">This is the Gypsy Wife quilt. I have the pattern for this quilt and it's something that I've been wanting to make for some time. The fabrics used in the pattern are so busy that it makes the quilt look more complicated than it is. When I saw this version, I was so excited because it makes the quilt seem doable. This was made by Catherine Mosely from Australia - an individual member. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">These lovely handmade ribbons were made by Elizabeth Hartman and are the ribbons that are placed on the winning quilts. Our local guild spends so much money each year on these big fancy, really expensive ribbons for our local quilt show but I found the smaller handmade ribbons to mean so much more. I would be ten times more excited to win a handmade ribbon from Quiltcon than to win a fancy purchased ribbon from my local guild.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"> This was my all time favorite quilt at the show. It didn't win any ribbons but it was still my favorite.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">And now my thoughts and feelings on Quiltcon 2015. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It was a wonderful show. The classes I took were a lot of fun and I got to meet some of my favorite quilting bloggers (Elizabeth Dackson from Don't Call Me Betsy - squeeeee). I did schedule time to look at the quilts and to shop the vendors but some of the vendors were always so busy that I didn't get to look in their booths. The vendors were definitely more modern than the ones at the Houston Quilt Festival. I enjoyed meeting them and I now have some new favorite online stores. The atmosphere at Quiltcon was so inspiring and just overall happy. Everyone I met was so encouraging and helpful. I had 2 lectures with Angela Walters and I think I may be in love.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">There is definitely a difference in the atmosphere of a modern quilt show compared to my very traditional local show or even the Houston show. Modern quilters seem to respect each others aesthetic and skill level more than traditional quilters.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I would definitely go again and I hope I can in the future.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Here is what I didn't like about it. <br />For some reason, Quiltcon only used about 1/3 the space in the Austin Convention Center. If they had used more of the space, they could have had accepted more quilts into the show, had more vendors and more classes. It was confusing to me. Maybe they already had it planned and didn't realize how quickly classes would fill or how many quilts would be entered?</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNdXLMUP3eRVuJiszlAaIpDpJwdN7ygujYs0SKqyYptY8dXHr3tDGK_26Lt0xqtIWDXqT0Uf0HlMsdXo2RnShWlFnEqnjah1T-wPt9FUegiQrl3SOy-x2jE0zcR71T_NZkFSGdFgemN2HZ/s1600/quiltcon1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNdXLMUP3eRVuJiszlAaIpDpJwdN7ygujYs0SKqyYptY8dXHr3tDGK_26Lt0xqtIWDXqT0Uf0HlMsdXo2RnShWlFnEqnjah1T-wPt9FUegiQrl3SOy-x2jE0zcR71T_NZkFSGdFgemN2HZ/s1600/quiltcon1.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">And here is my BIG complaint:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I found it more than a little ODD that the quilts that were entered in the juried section of the show were mostly quilts that had either been published as patterns, or in books or were in books that were about to be released by StashBooks or C&T publishing which was a large sponsor of the show. In fact, the soon to be released books were released the weekend of Quiltcon so that the authors could be there for signings. There were multiple quilts from each book that were in the show. For example, the new book Modern Rainbow by Rebecca Bryan - which I purchased there and it has some great quilts in it. Lots of them were at Quiltcon. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Maybe it was just a coincidence and those were really the best quilts entered?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Is that possible? Really?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Out of all the thousands of quilts entered by regular people who don't have book deals, these quilts were still the best?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Some modern quilters have years and years of experience having started first in traditional quilting or another area.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Maybe I'm just paranoid but I buy a lot of quilting books and I look at them. And I got to look at the quilts in person at Quiltcon many of which won ribbons. They are all beautiful quilts and I loved looking at them.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Did anyone else notice this? Some of the quilt bloggers had 3-4 quilts in the show all from 1 book. Why is it that those were the ones that caught the judges eye? Is it because they were all familiar to the judges having seen them so many times in books and internet patterns?</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I'll stop ranting now. I just noticed this right away and it really bothered me. It made me feel that no matter what I create, I won't get juried into Quiltcon unless I get a book deal from C & T publishing. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

I know my pictures are lacking but it was a very dark day when I took them and is very dark today as well.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOW5yM2yCoo3813JD38foNZORNcYuh9X0KqiEoiJXyyXQTLwYmHL9Q8DcJ9B_yIdk8PiBNmMTjEa0mh_I8Cjc-6SMgYT_kvyeNQixYtK8LyCAnlIm8eM8BCZBzFyuIqspk0mLSbbSeZt-3/s1600/ufo1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOW5yM2yCoo3813JD38foNZORNcYuh9X0KqiEoiJXyyXQTLwYmHL9Q8DcJ9B_yIdk8PiBNmMTjEa0mh_I8Cjc-6SMgYT_kvyeNQixYtK8LyCAnlIm8eM8BCZBzFyuIqspk0mLSbbSeZt-3/s1600/ufo1.jpg" height="296" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"> This was one of my first quilting projects. Being the young naive quilter that I was, I thought that a charm pack which had 42 whole squares in it! was enough to make a whole quilt. Well, it is, sort of. If you add in some solid squares, you have enough to make a baby quilt. So, once I figured out my mistake, that's what I did. Of course, I don't have a baby nor do I know anyone who has a baby but hopefully I can donate it to my guild's charity.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I made this quilt before I had taken any kind of classes or anything. I don't think most of the fabric is cut all that straight and I tried to make a border of the blue and white fabric but it just looks like I messed up my cornerstones. I wasn't trying to make cornerstones and actually didn't know what they were at the time.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuJvhma4dt9JPfuYLu_3LdOw72adultJJgTn9KB10HLAG2RZUwFEGqWGmLTnsg8SaLBX3U9SuIJXJxMNu_UMFsOKZ8KHpENvORG4fxspgYa5Z8a_sM5OHHGzr29lX_s49W9JxEXIM6njcN/s1600/ufo2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuJvhma4dt9JPfuYLu_3LdOw72adultJJgTn9KB10HLAG2RZUwFEGqWGmLTnsg8SaLBX3U9SuIJXJxMNu_UMFsOKZ8KHpENvORG4fxspgYa5Z8a_sM5OHHGzr29lX_s49W9JxEXIM6njcN/s1600/ufo2.jpg" height="288" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">It is pieced, back made, sandwiched and halfway quilted. My goal for February is to finish the quilting and bind it. I'm going to give it a good pressing and just start the quilting where I left off. It is straight line quilting on either sides of the stitch lines. Pretty simple.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Quiltcon is happening this month in only about 2 weeks or so. I'm looking forward to that as it will be my first and probably only Quiltcon since they are moving it to the west and east coasts after this year. Also, because of costs, I think I'm going to lay off traveling for big ol' quilt shows for awhile.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I'm looking forward to meeting some of my favorite bloggers, Elizabeth Dackson - I got into her FMQ class!, Penny Layman - learn how to make paper piecing patterns!, lots of great lectures and I'm going to the Moda party! Really looking forward to that.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This month is definitely busier than February's usually are and there is no slowing down in sight.</span><br />

And also like most quilters, I also have a life and other responsibilities that prevent me from sewing 24/7.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I mentioned in a previous post that we are building a new house (my husband's idea) and it is taking up lots of my time. There are phone calls to make, emails to send, websites to look at, choices to make. It's exhausting. And we haven't even broken ground yet. Great huh? Once things get moving, I do plan to post about it, if for no other reason than to keep a record of it. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">But I did get some sewing time in January and was able to complete a few small finishes.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My son got me the book A Flock of Feathered Stars by Carolyn McCormick for Christmas and I used one of the patterns to make a challenge block for my local guild's quilt show that is coming up in March. I committed to 2 blocks. We purchase the fabric kits from the guild for $2 and we have to use the black fabric for the background and the multi colored fabric somewhere in the block. Here's number one!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUZu2e1gjf_7zADLe88QvVcJ1y0p6DKMWEfwNGjAKZUHurQir7JGYTJUN2BknwLxXRYF0GCfP5Gf-keO1W1aeaOMSvxf2ODWH2BmFk-kO-mM9cGgBn38vAU8BNneWoaAhZmAVgQUyegUS1/s1600/featheredstar1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUZu2e1gjf_7zADLe88QvVcJ1y0p6DKMWEfwNGjAKZUHurQir7JGYTJUN2BknwLxXRYF0GCfP5Gf-keO1W1aeaOMSvxf2ODWH2BmFk-kO-mM9cGgBn38vAU8BNneWoaAhZmAVgQUyegUS1/s1600/featheredstar1.jpg" height="266" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"> And for number 2, I made the December block from Aurifil's 2014 BOM. I made my own pattern to paper piece my geese and the block looks a bit wonky to me but it came out the right measurement. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfFlJXbDwBALHnjszIfjBbmWL3HRuLmD8Bh9lRwV1F1j4OxZeLa9c9o7DVbmIklF9xkTmTzYBc9qhs1sGMYv0bArUL8pWxGsNJXjLs6zYDW7owYKjCjADq656995DJG9fXROPO8zMy9Y7E/s1600/guildchallenge1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfFlJXbDwBALHnjszIfjBbmWL3HRuLmD8Bh9lRwV1F1j4OxZeLa9c9o7DVbmIklF9xkTmTzYBc9qhs1sGMYv0bArUL8pWxGsNJXjLs6zYDW7owYKjCjADq656995DJG9fXROPO8zMy9Y7E/s1600/guildchallenge1.jpg" height="305" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I'm also working on a small quilt for donation at the quilt show's silent auction. Here's a sneak peak!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP0wpRFgXhBVzXMVsAEr9qVxWZNEzGmoWV1TjBqSiVlgQQhyphenhyphenmnn6q6R5etKsNz_phH9kwOAGliQNbnqijB4vJSyf5BafSBG9gUvBfxff_hh235vhZRTuLOFuzs_tAEgRW1q-MDA9BxX569/s1600/create1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP0wpRFgXhBVzXMVsAEr9qVxWZNEzGmoWV1TjBqSiVlgQQhyphenhyphenmnn6q6R5etKsNz_phH9kwOAGliQNbnqijB4vJSyf5BafSBG9gUvBfxff_hh235vhZRTuLOFuzs_tAEgRW1q-MDA9BxX569/s1600/create1.jpg" height="161" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">(Pattern designed by Kristy of Quiet Play) </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Also in the works is a Valentine's challenge mini quilt for my modern quilting group but as it's a secret, I'll have to wait until after our next meeting to show it.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">And lastly, one more sneak peak. I took a quilting color class at my local quilt show which was awesome! We used Prismacolor pencils to color our picture, sandwiched it and now I need to quilt it. I think I'll also do some thread painting - or at least try. We'll see how it comes out.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd2MbjVTqlYrX7yn93I1URFcboLtWfkXDlbqEwVgGUCVMnwxtj1TgjdzkTDnTbGRwLbUhjre4jiE-3D11-61OqCB62qwxo16lpHh-z1Zck5rDsCm653bKkmXzTaznXEbN6e6r-EECggQ3Z/s1600/butterfly1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd2MbjVTqlYrX7yn93I1URFcboLtWfkXDlbqEwVgGUCVMnwxtj1TgjdzkTDnTbGRwLbUhjre4jiE-3D11-61OqCB62qwxo16lpHh-z1Zck5rDsCm653bKkmXzTaznXEbN6e6r-EECggQ3Z/s1600/butterfly1.jpg" height="289" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">February starts tomorrow. Fingers crossed I can get more accomplished.</span><br />

Where has January gone?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My goal for <b>A Lovely Year of Finishes</b> for January was to get the quilting on my "My Modern Voice" quilt finished. Mission accomplished! </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdlULY7sILUbTCN2vKYEjNprpg5VJL74WM8pITzxkdhzfh03uESeNr945hk06aSx1gbYeRp1Z9F-S1X6iv3e4qc8grpbSV6V7XCKBLa67pyUA3U4u0exkGiScYWzzuyoeyM1x_QF4x9C9j/s1600/modernvoice6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdlULY7sILUbTCN2vKYEjNprpg5VJL74WM8pITzxkdhzfh03uESeNr945hk06aSx1gbYeRp1Z9F-S1X6iv3e4qc8grpbSV6V7XCKBLa67pyUA3U4u0exkGiScYWzzuyoeyM1x_QF4x9C9j/s1600/modernvoice6.jpg" height="247" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I still need to trim it and bind it and of course put the sleeve on it so that I can have it ready for our local quilt show in March. But I'm glad the quilting is done. If you look really close, you can probably still see some marking lines that I haven't removed yet.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEkPUVMNIOiSfwe3PShxi6IS7BMR3QWVngKGNJ0vr80eZGX7VuE8z27B_LpX5Ulksc9-egg-_ZWbkxV2vGvvR2VK1IaA30p3Ln7GhznScSLxSnDlzwbAAfIxvvOYZ83rVt_fgVPDVK1aYl/s1600/modernvoice3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEkPUVMNIOiSfwe3PShxi6IS7BMR3QWVngKGNJ0vr80eZGX7VuE8z27B_LpX5Ulksc9-egg-_ZWbkxV2vGvvR2VK1IaA30p3Ln7GhznScSLxSnDlzwbAAfIxvvOYZ83rVt_fgVPDVK1aYl/s1600/modernvoice3.jpg" height="320" width="318" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I used the serpentine stitch on my Brother sewing machine and basically made lots of straight lines. I used tape and also Frixion pens to mark my lines and they came out pretty good. They are not all the same distance apart. I varied the distance to keep it interesting.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The quilt looks puckered in this picture but it isn't. I think it just needed ironing. Sorry for the crummy pics this time. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">And here is the back of the quilt. </span><br />

You can see the blog post and design <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tyler-Modern-Quilting-Group/761637307205061?sk=timeline" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />

<br />
I don't remember when I finish the quilt top but it was sometime in October. I've been quilting it with a serpentine stitch on my Brother machine. But I've been doing it slowly as in only working on it in spurts. I had hoped to get it finished in time to enter it in Quiltcon's juried show but didn't finish it in time. I did enter 2 quilts in Quiltcon but they were both rejected as were all my friends quilts who entered. I know that's been a big deal on instagram and facebook so I'm not going to talk about it here. Quiltcon and the MQG is still growing and changing and I think it's going to take them some time to catch up with their audience.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So anyway, my goal for January's <a href="http://blog.sewbittersweetdesigns.com/?p=5282" target="_blank">A Lovely Year of Finishes</a> is to finish quilting this quilt which I'm going to call "My Modern Voice". This is one of my many UFO's in my big ol' box.<br />
<br />
Hopefully, I can also finish the binding in January but I'm not going to make that part of my goal because I don't want to jinx myself with too many goals :)<div class="blogger-post-footer">“This post was originally posted on Handmade Whimzy. How did that happen? I left to go to the Houston International Quilt Festival and when I got back, I was too exhausted to post anything for a couple of weeks. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Then November happened and then December. And now we're here. Should I do a recap of pics since October? No, those are boring.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">How about we just start fresh now with a blank slate and eager for a whole new year!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> <img border="0" src="http://blog.sewbittersweetdesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/image005.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I will be participating, once again in A Lovely Year of Finishes ran by the lovely ladies at Fiber of All Sorts and Sew Bittersweet Designs. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Let's be honest here. Last year I did a miserable job at it. I think I finished my goal only about 3 months out of all last year. But this year I have bigger plans. I plan to dig into my UFO box and finish some of that stuff. Of course, I have a list of new projects I want to get started on too but I've got to do something with those UFO's. Most of my ALYOF goals this year will revolve around those.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I do have a couple of pics to show you guys from Christmas.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">This is my MIL wearing the infinity scarf I made her for Christmas. It just happened to match her shirt that day. This was my only handmade gift.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG-hhCd3tTebCqxBhzTsandgRTojO8s671DyIMrNWTvZF2kgPfwmE_obFP8YiIjqn5JpU-AIsm9d9Cy65Cqq0JKiD05x7jUfF9N4V80WfOo_OAnrbBzlUDZLkMiRqh8iv9Z9KgncAR4JgD/s1600/xmas2014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG-hhCd3tTebCqxBhzTsandgRTojO8s671DyIMrNWTvZF2kgPfwmE_obFP8YiIjqn5JpU-AIsm9d9Cy65Cqq0JKiD05x7jUfF9N4V80WfOo_OAnrbBzlUDZLkMiRqh8iv9Z9KgncAR4JgD/s1600/xmas2014.jpg" height="319" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">That is my son with the unwashed and uncombed hair. You can't tell from this angle but he also had a weeks worth of whiskers. Ah teenage boys. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">And this is a picture of what I got for Christmas. I've wanted it for at least 2 years now. It's taking me some time to get use to it but I'm so excited to have it. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQTLZzU6kF75rsX07RPIOsC3Etfve1kY2DuW5v5AYTiLwMP7fe3uT-_JPYy4JydDkdv_sJECa45_P8q6L8LlCVFtcQZici9VELvrczL-x-6X1pwmuIeZMe5ZjadUtgzFdoR603gDzWTd3B/s1600/juki1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQTLZzU6kF75rsX07RPIOsC3Etfve1kY2DuW5v5AYTiLwMP7fe3uT-_JPYy4JydDkdv_sJECa45_P8q6L8LlCVFtcQZici9VELvrczL-x-6X1pwmuIeZMe5ZjadUtgzFdoR603gDzWTd3B/s1600/juki1.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">It came with so many feet! And about 20 bobbins! This last picture is with the Juki sitting on a table with my Janome DC2010. See how much bigger it is. It's like a giant next to my little Janome.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">FYI: We are currently in the process of building a new home and getting our current home ready to sell. My husband has taken all my tables over to the storage room so I don't have a place to put my Juki. But I'm planning my space in the new house with a great big area for my Juki.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I'll be back in the next couple of days with my ALYOF goal for January. I have to look in my giant pile of UFO's and decide. Also, I plan to do a detailed review of my new Juki in a couple of months when I've had time to play with it. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">And one last thing, my Modern Quilting group that I started back in July of last year, now has a Facebook page:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tyler-Modern-Quilting-Group/761637307205061?sk=timeline</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">We have lots of photos posted from our meetings so you can see what we're doing and my dear friend Robyn is making us up a really cool logo. Please like our page so that you can keep up with what our small but excited group will be up to. </span><br />

It's a lot of fun for the kids because each day is a theme day and they get to dress up (and not wear their uniforms!) Then of course Friday afternoon is the big pep rally and then the football game that night - which we won!! YAY Go Cru!<br />
<br />
<br />
So, the reason I didn't get any blogging done the last 2 weeks of September was because for about a week I was working on my son's Homecoming date's mum. Then I had to take a few days to rest from all that work. LOL These mums are seriously important to the kids. So that means they are also important to the moms. They are time consuming to make - unless you're the lady at Hobby Lobby who can pop out 3-4 a day - and they are actually very expensive. All the little bits and bobs that you have to buy end up being pricey and for some reason I always overbuy and end up with a box of stuff for next year. You can end up spending anywhere from $70 to several hundreds of dollars. So as you can see, this is a HUGE crafting project.<br />
For anyone who isn't aware of the Texas Homecoming Mum traditions, you can read last years blog post <a href="http://here./">here.</a><br />
<br />
I have lots of pictures to show of this years mum so I'll just get to it.<br />

Some Tula Pink fabric looking at me!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAGngfLIL79_aXsdxW_zqzfRomO906A5N06ksCntgNGPlAkmF_upZ7rslW3IRzIt_WqbvahE2CWLoj-NFRg_QQ_FVFPkL80AhLM1mzklgsphS4EYHpAbnE0mzH_TEgj3Pwdy2cuQlLkNaQ/s1600/fabric3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAGngfLIL79_aXsdxW_zqzfRomO906A5N06ksCntgNGPlAkmF_upZ7rslW3IRzIt_WqbvahE2CWLoj-NFRg_QQ_FVFPkL80AhLM1mzklgsphS4EYHpAbnE0mzH_TEgj3Pwdy2cuQlLkNaQ/s1600/fabric3.jpg" height="277" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I live in a very traditional quilting area of the state and although my favorite LQS does carry lots of lovely modern prints, she also carries lots of Civil War reproduction, traditional prints and western prints. But she is trying to carry more modern goodies and today she had just gotten in some of Tula's new Moonshine collection as well as a few of Anna Maria Horner's Potent line.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So, of course, some of it had to come home with me even though I'm suppose to be on a fabric diet until after the Houston Quilt Festival.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">And then I found this:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLnW5hDrmjCkI5Bz5h4M6RTQPmjReZERXJ4AxJmUwpkPSxGWyMXwtWUQMzMOgJSJf9RExbi_EbLZRLtRkxUy845aKwN8OzBpQKS-5RA14x-h1xc78Jp_EnIw56LgfWkKDi7ATZRpiPgQya/s1600/fabric1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLnW5hDrmjCkI5Bz5h4M6RTQPmjReZERXJ4AxJmUwpkPSxGWyMXwtWUQMzMOgJSJf9RExbi_EbLZRLtRkxUy845aKwN8OzBpQKS-5RA14x-h1xc78Jp_EnIw56LgfWkKDi7ATZRpiPgQya/s1600/fabric1.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitMKY0-0mGW3wDWJgTto2_KYSUOMsl36lEO-Qa8ZMe0JlbumQY0h0tZE43kZVvnPevSu9Qpt22ZsiiKv6VXBYmqSAfaONxjop-nKvWIi6_u_9XnVBfTYbCx2ecIpOkJT9tKP4NbtZu6WKv/s1600/fabric2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitMKY0-0mGW3wDWJgTto2_KYSUOMsl36lEO-Qa8ZMe0JlbumQY0h0tZE43kZVvnPevSu9Qpt22ZsiiKv6VXBYmqSAfaONxjop-nKvWIi6_u_9XnVBfTYbCx2ecIpOkJT9tKP4NbtZu6WKv/s1600/fabric2.jpg" height="210" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Windham fabrics presents "Paint" by Carrie Bloomston. This particular print is called Newsprint. I love it. I bought a yard but I think I'm going to go back for more. She also had it in the purple and I think I'll have to pick up a bit of that.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Then I came home and took a nap. It was raining here all day and very dark, so I was practically forced to take a nap :)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Thanks for reading! I hope you have a great week!</span><br />

I didn't forget this time. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This month my ALYOF goal is to complete the quilt top that I alluded to in my previous post. I have every block cut out and the pathworks that go in each block are made. I just need to sew the borders around the patchwork.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKG6XWs70vAn78be8V1BHJ80R7FvG2GyfzVozmIMwWK5D97za5AgP7DnsJRN0_ytG5IaIGiZFN72I5JOAolYnH4S9jMWPgQXLkvYBvrQ8DZpmGFFIV6LNmfu6pqM4v2c-I4WEQXfOS9-A1/s1600/octoberchallenge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKG6XWs70vAn78be8V1BHJ80R7FvG2GyfzVozmIMwWK5D97za5AgP7DnsJRN0_ytG5IaIGiZFN72I5JOAolYnH4S9jMWPgQXLkvYBvrQ8DZpmGFFIV6LNmfu6pqM4v2c-I4WEQXfOS9-A1/s1600/octoberchallenge.jpg" height="194" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">And then I will have this:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiobWQ-AtbpaqYU4Q1aspI-ireOHO9_IIx38NDAh6fC9ukwIljLwAv3_MOlkNHop3FqXVn8xhcliS-PdbpRXhzDDFC6fIx_tIEkfYkoIBRDKvOa_kPbdRBIhe9g2zoRr1hJr_g2kCbjcdoh/s1600/fiesta2.jpf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiobWQ-AtbpaqYU4Q1aspI-ireOHO9_IIx38NDAh6fC9ukwIljLwAv3_MOlkNHop3FqXVn8xhcliS-PdbpRXhzDDFC6fIx_tIEkfYkoIBRDKvOa_kPbdRBIhe9g2zoRr1hJr_g2kCbjcdoh/s1600/fiesta2.jpf.jpg" height="315" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Keep your fingers crossed that it will look like the picture in my head.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Have a great day!</span><br />

The first quilt that jumped out at me in the book and begged to be made was the Fiesta Wall quilt. I've wanted to make it for the past 2 years. And I've had the fabric purchased to make it for the past 2 years. :)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Lately, it's been calling to me again and I decided that I wanted to get it made in time to enter it into Quiltcon (deadline is the end of November). So I pulled out my fabrics a few days ago and started thinking about the quilt. I still love the quilt in the book but lately I've been wanting to design my own quilts more and more. Or at least take inspiration from the pattern but put my own spin on it. So, I got out my colored pencils and my graph paper and drew up a plan.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFJtiKL8SQKER9Ci4GzBky0aEZtL-Wu2xZ6YvyAyDHUJ872C7F_hqIKi2eHD_CHSEfkk8PukSJPjUFCbHtjIKEf3a8uZlDn1__JhrsPTFfgPsPc1saBDQE1eWd_Y2d5dPIRB0wV_g0eHFR/s1600/wip2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFJtiKL8SQKER9Ci4GzBky0aEZtL-Wu2xZ6YvyAyDHUJ872C7F_hqIKi2eHD_CHSEfkk8PukSJPjUFCbHtjIKEf3a8uZlDn1__JhrsPTFfgPsPc1saBDQE1eWd_Y2d5dPIRB0wV_g0eHFR/s1600/wip2.jpg" height="272" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">And that's my WIP for this week. I'm working on my Fiesta quilt (possible name change is in the works).</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I read a lot of blogs and try to stay up on what's going on in the online quilting community. By doing so, it can sometimes be easy to go with the flow and just like what's trendy at the moment. Lately I'm getting better at stopping myself, pulling back and thinking about the things that I really like and dislike. How am I a modern quilter? How do my likes and dislikes make me one?</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_UpbcQyTZG8cPWTwb4_reTWRahmlEwMSKYtL5k6jR4_p0OSfqmP7pAZ-6N-EyyjlBWBHsWeIbQ_HzRh3YLymV1JXwpGNZBNlTTBdxy5ZgPD0Eqmgf9PjriVhNApPj5ShcNHvHg2L7t2G7/s1600/wip4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_UpbcQyTZG8cPWTwb4_reTWRahmlEwMSKYtL5k6jR4_p0OSfqmP7pAZ-6N-EyyjlBWBHsWeIbQ_HzRh3YLymV1JXwpGNZBNlTTBdxy5ZgPD0Eqmgf9PjriVhNApPj5ShcNHvHg2L7t2G7/s1600/wip4.jpg" height="272" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Well, I love patchwork, I love scrappy, I love minimalism or negative space - but not too much, I love traditional quilt blocks, I love traditional quilt blocks that have been made modern, I love modern quilt blocks, I LOVE paper piecing, I love sampler quilts, I love the colors blue, green and purple - the cool side of the color wheel, I love gray and black and some shades of chocolate brown - but not too much and I love color combos that are opposite each other on the color wheel. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9wv7pO6T2DTJqL-NbILJdyuGCbLd3iWiwkCeh73KklYtGWGfnBpQCy8X_tcafGJnKBUz59kC_M9PsQh2WzG0UGwDb4NmZhdh4DyAs8aYWPGk_79guv7FS4TeelS5yIXCzpmaXdYcRH7Po/s1600/wip3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9wv7pO6T2DTJqL-NbILJdyuGCbLd3iWiwkCeh73KklYtGWGfnBpQCy8X_tcafGJnKBUz59kC_M9PsQh2WzG0UGwDb4NmZhdh4DyAs8aYWPGk_79guv7FS4TeelS5yIXCzpmaXdYcRH7Po/s1600/wip3.jpg" height="254" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">What do I dislike? I dislike traditional borders and sashings with the little corner blocks, I dislike low volume, I dislike too much minimalism, I dislike some shades of brown, I dislike repro/vintagey fabrics, I dislike Civil War fabrics, I dislike solids that are too dusty and I'm sure there is more that I dislike.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="color: blue;">**NOTE: This is my personal opinion about the things listed. I realize not everyone carries my opinion and that's what makes the world so great. </span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgaKdz83cV9FwTZXH74IPAe60Z5DsQfZ2pM3uvt9fINmwJIfNBJsmsadPhvxpwU2670Fp6Zwm7zbMd5m_3SWkJprp4n9I_zWbV8T7r_UNIl5VnJce7D8sKidrV-zePZ48qxJaIqtPRpXT-/s1600/wip1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgaKdz83cV9FwTZXH74IPAe60Z5DsQfZ2pM3uvt9fINmwJIfNBJsmsadPhvxpwU2670Fp6Zwm7zbMd5m_3SWkJprp4n9I_zWbV8T7r_UNIl5VnJce7D8sKidrV-zePZ48qxJaIqtPRpXT-/s1600/wip1.jpg" height="308" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">After thinking about what I like and dislike for some time, I drew up my plan for my *Fiesta* quilt. It has some of the things I love in it such as patchwork, minimalism (but not too much), and cool colors. We'll see how it goes. I really need to finish up some WIP's around here. They're starting to take over the place.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Wow! This post was just suppose to be about my WIP and it got all preachy. Sorry about that. Please don't take offense if I have disliked something you love. </span><br />

I actually did get my goal in on time but I didn't get a blog post done in time so it doesn't count. I also didn't get my goal for September posted. Ack!<br />
<br />
What happened? Was it the start of school? The really hot weather? The end of summer?<br />
I don't know. Just disorganization I guess. We'll go with that anyway.<br />
<br />
So here are my completed Dottie quarter circles. I've put them all together in the pictures so you can see that they really are all there.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggHyLb42rm5dzn0I3NurxyxzvgSmWitoi8t9KJJARfDArIKC_2Pau6LqOtAAMEWWwBd5_sj32jEyK6WGCIZkEioDEEiPNqhSmsBV7EtrUkw_-rRYVVVwG27xvIV7JuVIJbiqomlBN976sd/s1600/dottie1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggHyLb42rm5dzn0I3NurxyxzvgSmWitoi8t9KJJARfDArIKC_2Pau6LqOtAAMEWWwBd5_sj32jEyK6WGCIZkEioDEEiPNqhSmsBV7EtrUkw_-rRYVVVwG27xvIV7JuVIJbiqomlBN976sd/s1600/dottie1.jpg" height="320" width="238" /></a></div>
So, I've finished my goal for August but now I'm going to put the dotties away for awhile. I have so many projects that I need to get finished by Christmas or the end of the year that I just don't want to have these dotties dragging me down. That's right. I've lost my dottie mojo.<br />
<br />
If I weren't so far into the project, I'd scrap it altogether.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcNW21TGD5d0LvCIvJ8oLUukIblKr_bZY_r-9Tocu6y0Mvb264gr-0aB3HWWByQz9UTDTmqSZByjKeFW_XjbhxcwMCX6YWYmMJIyhJ1kNRBJ8eVLfLUHBfUTdZLEZJCQRBYYBNVwG0l29U/s1600/dottie3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcNW21TGD5d0LvCIvJ8oLUukIblKr_bZY_r-9Tocu6y0Mvb264gr-0aB3HWWByQz9UTDTmqSZByjKeFW_XjbhxcwMCX6YWYmMJIyhJ1kNRBJ8eVLfLUHBfUTdZLEZJCQRBYYBNVwG0l29U/s1600/dottie3.jpg" height="314" width="320" /></a></div>
But I love all the different fabrics that I used. After all, it is all MY fabric - from my stash that is. I know how I want to complete the place mats and I do plan on taking this back up. I don't want it to be a never completed UFO.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivT332wKWh-RtokX0Wv6U6VgnxVFiIThXcl9GeA-ojAf31UUzLmmNQYVCGwbdACEpMxS54gXbpZ7mAZ57H-jg6HjEbOgN4o-pu3QKKQ52OeHoM7uO8u9__nmXX0BGdYOWbvmu1Bkd4_TOK/s1600/dottie2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivT332wKWh-RtokX0Wv6U6VgnxVFiIThXcl9GeA-ojAf31UUzLmmNQYVCGwbdACEpMxS54gXbpZ7mAZ57H-jg6HjEbOgN4o-pu3QKKQ52OeHoM7uO8u9__nmXX0BGdYOWbvmu1Bkd4_TOK/s1600/dottie2.jpg" height="283" width="320" /></a></div>
But for now they're going in the box.<br />
<br />
If I had remembered to post my goal for September, it would have been to get my <span style="color: #b45f06;"><a href="http://handmadewhimzy.blogspot.com/2014/08/wip-wednesday-with-half-finish.html" target="_blank">Halloween table runner</a></span> quilted. I know how I want it quilted and I've already basted it and it's sitting on my sewing machine table. I just need to start.<br />
